To My Sweet Melissa,
LOVE.
A word our families say on a daily basis.
We’re so good at it. We never forget to say it.
Boy…did you Love, Love!
You even named your son Amari...Love!
You just wanted to own a home of your own.
And fill it with Love and laugher!
We had unconditional love…something our generation has forgotten.
Sure…there were fights…
But we always ran back to each other…
Moments after, days after, months after.
We always knew we would be forgiven…
We always knew we would have each other.
But not because we had to,
There was a special force holding us together, a bond, a trust, a special kind of cousin, a friend, a Love!
You were so complex and emotionally intelligent when it came to love.
And such an amazing listener.
Melissa, you and I were together throughout Covid. Truly present with each other.
I was a hot mess when I got furloughed.
And in true Melissa fashion, you drove straight to my house and said,
“Juliann, why are you crying, now we can hang out all the time!”
We selfishly loved that the world stopped…for us. We spent the best months of our lives together…And that’s when the cowboy accent started!
We told our families that it was ok to be near each other, because we are family!
When I had knee surgery during quarantine, you where there for me!
Only with you would I agree to go on a boat ride on the Hudson 72 hours after surgery.
What I’d do for a laugh with Melissa!
You loved being my chauffeur. You drove me anywhere I needed to go, whenever I needed you.
You got all of my local friends and family together for the best drive by Covid birthday celebration.
You were the one who planned and coordinated all of our family Zoom parties!! No one else could figure out Zoom back then…but you did…because you were the boss!
You never followed the book. You didn’t have to. The second you had a passion for anything…you did it. Your way.
Better than the A+ student next you.
I saw it. Always. I admired you.
Yes, we were silly, we had inside jokes, our own special language that no one else understood.
We were loud! And if our audience didn’t laugh, we were even louder!
Danny and your family were our favorite audience. Amari was a new member of our audience… and boy is he so aware! I see so much of him in you.
Don’t worry I’ll continue to make him laugh, and Love. Like we did.
I’m so sorry life wasn’t easy for you my sweet Melissa.
I know Grandpa is with you now.
And my Mom’s tiramisu.
Until we meet again.
Hats off to you.
My Guardian angel.
I Love You Forever,
Cousin Friend Juliann
