Paul was simply the most beautiful, honest, no B.S. human with a mischievous grin, and quick wit coupled with a fierce love for his family and the people he called family. Sadly, on August 31, after a fight that was “a f*#ing s*#t show”, cancer took him.
Paul faced down some demons during his 63 years on this planet, but he was also blessed with two angels who balanced the scales in his favor no matter what he was going through.
Meghann (Natasha) and Alexe (Evan) showed him what unconditional love looked like, and the hardest part about leaving this earth for Paul was leaving them behind. And Jax. Jax who loved his Papou with abandon and shared sleepovers, and ice cream and a million and one laughs. Also by his side for the best years of his life and right to the end was Michèle who he always said he didn’t deserve, but who loved him anyway. If he had had a choice in the matter, Paul would NEVER have left any of them.
Predeceased by his parents and sister, Paul also leaves to mourn his brothers Dom and Joe, his nieces and nephews and friends that became family over the years, including Josie who he called his third daughter. In his professional life, Paul was a chef, who expressed his love for people by feeding them, and if you were lucky enough to taste his demi-glace sauce at The Mas des Oliviers, or his lobster rolls at The Oyster Shack, or his polpette in tomato sauce at Le Muscadin then you felt his love in action.
A bit of a control freak, Paul wrote his own eulogy in advance. Here’s a sample:
“I don’t want your memories of me to be of the end, the end f&*#ing sucks. But the laughter, the good times, those are the things that helped keep the darkness away. So, I want you to remember a time when we were laughing, having fun, during a party, or at a bar, or during a trip to New Orleans - remember a time when we were laughing.”
In honor of Paul, please have a shot of vodka, hug the people that you love (hard), and cook something delicious (with lots of salt) that you can share with a group of people while you laugh the night away.
Paul’s family will welcome anyone who wants to pay their respects on September 18th, 2022 at the Côte-des-Neiges Funeral Home. The viewing will be from 12-4pm and there will be a ceremony in the chapel from 4-5pm where some will share words and his good friend will sing some of Paul’s favorite songs.
Instead of sending flowers, the family asks that you please consider donating to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence
