Maria Scavone

Maria Scavone passed away peacefully in her 82nd year on February 19th, 2020 after a courageous battle with progressive supra nuclear palsy.

Maria was born on January 30th, 1939 to Nicola Scavone and Filomena Armenti in Ururi, Italy. After immigrating to Canada with her family at the very tender age of 17, her be-loved sister, Stella, took her under her maternal wing after their parents decided to return to Italy.

In 1964, Maria married the love of her life, Michael Frate. With her striking natural beauty and delicate elegance, it is easy to see how Michael adored her. Maria and Michael’s daughter, Claudia, was born in 1970.

When Maria had Claudia, she devoted her life to being the most attentive and affectionate mother. She protected her daughter adamantly through the many difficulties of their lives and always encouraged Claudia to pursue an education.

Maria was passionate about classic movies. She knew them all, American and Italian. She could name the actors, and even recount their biographies.

Most of all, she was passionate about her family. She loved her siblings and cherished her nephews as if they were her own children.

Maria is predeceased by her husband, Michael; her brother, Tonino; her sister, Stella and her parents Nicola and Filomena. She is survived by her daughter, Claudia; her brother, Ignazio; her sister, Elena; and her nephews and nieces.
