Mom (“Ma”) was born in Toishan, China on April 1, 1932. The lunar calendar was commonly used in those days so she was unaware of her Western calendar date of birth. Upon immigrating to Canada in 1964, she chose May 7,1932 as her birthday.
Throughout our lives, mom sprinkled us with stories of growing up during the Japanese war, working on the farm, not have a good education and often going to bed hungry. Coming to Canada was a dream as many like her of that age.
Family was always Mom’s priority, supporting her own mom, niece and nephew in China while taking care of us and working outside the home as a seamstress near Park Ave in Montreal until she retired in 1992 – she was the modern day feminist of her time.
Mom spoke very little English and French but was expressive in her own way. Naturally shy but protective of her family at all cost. Even during her illness she was more concern about how her children were managing.
Mom met many good people throughout her life who have helped in many ways. We cannot name them all here but would like to make mention of Patsy Behr. We want you to know that Mom considered you family.
Life will be different without Mom. We will adjust to this new normal slowly and painfully. We are comforted, however, knowing that Mom is at peace and at rest. We will miss her terribly.
The family will receive condolences on March 23, 2020 at 11 am to 12 pm at Cote-des-Neiges funeral home, 4525 Côte-des-Neiges rd, Montreal, Qc, H3V 1E7.
There will be no service due to the current situation with the Covid-19.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest a donation to the Heart & Stroke association of Canada.
