It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Raymond Dionne on May 11, 2018 at the age of 50. He was the devoted and loving son of Raymond Dionne and Marguerite Poirier, father of Frosty, and beloved partner and best friend of Thane Fotopoulos. Gordon will also be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his extended family of relatives, cherished friends and work colleagues who adored him.
Gordon was smart, creative, funny and had a great laugh. He was a quiet and thoughtful leader who taught us all to live colourfully, honour the truth, be kind to yourself, practice compassion, pursue happiness, dream fearlessly and always inject passion in your personal and professional endeavours. A lifelong comic book fan, Gordon was a true superhero who put everyone else’s needs above his own and was a champion of social justice. He truly cared for others, always seeking to give, but never ever looking for anything in return. He brought a unique light and warmth to all who met him with a kind smile and sense of serenity that would make others feel comfortable. He was often shy and never sought the spotlight. But for someone who wanted to stay quiet in the background, he certainly left his mark on people. This was best exemplified by the work he did most recently as Manager of the Access Centre for Students with Disabilities at Concordia University, as an Accessibility Advisor at McGill University, and in his private psychology practice. Gordon will be dearly missed by his colleagues in Disability Services across Canada and the United States.
Gordon was certainly the bravest person we knew. Not only because of the way he fought his cancer with such positivity, hope and conviction, while making those around him feel optimism, but also by the way he lived his life unabashedly proud of who he was and comfortable in his own skin.
The family will receive condolences at Collins Clarke MacGillivray Funeral Home (5610 Sherbrooke St. West) on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church (4455 West Broadway) on Thursday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery. Please bring your memories and love.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Gordon’s memory.
