On Thursday January 26, 2023, Sylvia Evans Duncan went to be with the love of her life, Charles Duncan, and her beautiful daughter Sherri. They are now celebrating with Jesus, all the many family members, and friends that were waiting for her. What a wonderful time they must be having!
Sylvia grew up in Montgomery with her mom, dad, and four siblings not far from her beloved Big Momma and Big Daddy. They had a close family full of many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her mom instilled in her the importance of family and she carried on that tradition.
Her love story began 63 years ago on June 17th when she married Charles Duncan. They dedicated their lives to serving Jesus and she supported him throughout his ministry. They had two children, Don and Sherri. They showed them the perfect example of what love and marriage are.
She enjoyed working in daycare, treating each child as they were her own. Later she was employed with Troy State University. She retired with the City of Montgomery at Lagoon Park Tennis Center, a position she loved.
Sylvia enjoyed gardening and her roses especially. She was an incredible cook. Her chicken and dressing, chocolate pies, and strawberry cake always made you fight to be the first in line. If you accused her of spoiling her grandchildren or great grandchildren, she would quickly correct you. She would say, “I’m not spoiling them. I’m just loving them!”
Mrs. Duncan was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Duncan; her daughter, Sherri Duncan Hall; her parents, Cliff and Levis Evans; and her siblings, Syble Park and Wayne Evans.
She is survived by her son, Don Duncan (Margie); her grandchildren, Mitch Duncan (Haley), Kristy Heisler (Matt), B. J. Russell (Hannah), Evan Hall, Kendall Duncan, Alex Russell (Chandler), Carly Keenan (Jared) and 8 great grandchildren; as well as her brothers, Cliff Evans Jr. (Linda) and James Evans (Kathy).
A family and friends visitation for Sylvia will be held Monday, January 30, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a celebration of life chapel service at 2:00 PM. Services will conclude with a burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Duncan, B. J. Russell, Evan Hall, Alex Russell, Carson Mooney and Bryson Taylor.
