Susan Eady Martin went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 7, 2023, her 81st Birthday. Susan was born to Lorene and Billy Eady and grew up in Jefferson County, graduating from Jones Valley High School. She went on to obtain a B.S. Degree from what is now Montevallo and a master’s degree from Auburn in speech therapy. She spent many years in public elementary schools teaching developmentally challenged children.
Susan was a prolific reader and writer. If you knew her well, you likely have been the recipient of several notes and letters. Her children fondly remember their Mom packing their lunches for school each day and including a personal note to each of them on the napkin she included. She also loved music. She was an excellent pianist and also learned to play the violin.
Her real passion was volunteering her amazing skills. After moving to Montgomery following her retirement, Susan was very active at First Baptist Church where she regularly volunteered at the Caring Center, worked with English as a Second Language students, and tutored. She also loved working at the Children’s Learning Center. One of the highlights of her life was going on a mission expedition to the unreached Ejamat people group in Senegal, Africa at age 71.
Susan is survived by her children Beth Brewer (Charlie) of Opelika and David Martin (Angie) of Montgomery; sister Janice Dunlap (Tom) of Oakwood, Georgia; grandchildren Sarah Brewer, Chas Brewer, Laine Martin, and Graham Martin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church Montgomery on Thursday, October 12 at 1:00. The family will receive guests an hour before the service, which will be held in the Stakely Sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Montgomery Caring Center.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AlabamaHeritageFH.com for the Martin family.
