Richard was born September 6, 1940, in Montgomery, AL, into a loving and close- knit family as the youngest of seven siblings. After his graduation from Sidney Lanier High School, he served in the U.S. Navy. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Auburn University in 1968 and practiced veterinary medicine in the Montgomery area for over forty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jennie Beatrice and George Bliss Green, and brothers, Dr. George Bliss Green, Jr., Dr. James Nelson Green and Dr. Harris Reed Green, and sisters, Marjorie Scorey, Janice Mahoney and Dorothy Hawthorne. He is survived by his sons, Wayne Green (Courtney), David Green (Alison), Stephen Green, George Cox (Jana); daughter Amy Cox Byrd (Shane); grandchildren, Ann-Marie, Trey, William, Sara, George, Bennett, Jack, Chapman, Hollis, Jon Camon, Cameron and Camille. numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved emotional support dog Rose-Marie. The family is grateful to Marshall Pickard for going above and beyond for his caring service to Doc.
Richard loved Auburn football, quail hunting, caring for animals, and had a passion to help others. He instilled the importance of working hard and playing hard. . Most importantly he was a faithful Christian.
A celebration of life graveside service for Richard will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 at 10:15 AM at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, AL. Following the celebration of life graveside service will be a celebration of life Memorial Service at 2:30 PM at Leak Memory Chapel with a family and friends visitation one hour prior to service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local Humane Society.
