Richard Darrell (Dobie) Blevins, devoted husband and loving father, brother and son, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 30, 2021. He was a resident of Brewton, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Scott Blevins.
Survivors include his wife, Denise; sons Kyle and Craig; mother, Shelby Blevins of Montgomery, Alabama; one brother, Dennis Blevins (Michele) of North Augusta, South Carolina.
Darrell graduated from Auburn University in Montgomery with a degree in Business Management and later earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Troy State. He was entering his sixteenth year at Coastal Alabama Community College East (formerly Jefferson Davis Community College) as head baseball coach and Microcomputer Applications Instructor.
The three most important things to Darrell were his relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family, especially sons Kyle and Craig, and baseball. He was an active member of First Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and children’s ministry volunteer.
The greatest joys in his life were his boys, Kyle and Craig. They were his favorite topic of conversation, and he loved watching them excel at their favorite sports. He strived to instill a servant's heart, humility and a strong work ethic into the boys. Darrell was also a devoted husband. His wife Denise, whom he often called “my bride,” was the love of his life and his best friend. Darrell’s love for and devotion to his family reflected the love of Christ.
Darrell loved the game of baseball. He spent thirty years in organized baseball at both the high school and collegiate levels. He worked to not only turn out good ballplayers, but more importantly to him, turning out good men.
