Michael Christopher Furey, 55, of Montgomery went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, Colonel Bart Furey and his sister Therese Ann Furey. He is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle Furey; his dear mother, Jane Furey; two sons, William and Matthew Furey; two stepsons, Cary (Brittney) and Cam Kimber; and his puppy dog, Wolf. He was known as Mike or Big Mike by all except his mother who called him Michael at times.
Mike was born on October 31, 1962 in Frankfurt, Germany en Main. He graduated from Moanalua High School in Hawaii and received a Bachelor of Science in business from Auburn University at Montgomery. He received his Masters of Business Administration from Ashford University. Mike was a systems administrator for the Department of Defense at Fort Gunter and proudly served his country in both the Marines and the U.S. Army for 33 years. Mike received many commendations, awards, and medals during his distinguished military career. These included the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, Parachute Badge, Scuba Diver Badge, the Army Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal and others.
His generous, loving spirit will be missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit in Montgomery at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A burial will be held at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018.
