Mary Macon Hammond, 90, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on March 5, 2016. She was born November 11, 1925 in Elmore County and graduated from Wetumpka High School in 1944. She was predeceased by her husband Doy H. Hammond, and six brothers and sisters.
In 1954, Mary worked alongside her husband to create Hammond Plumbing Company in Montgomery. She was active in garden clubs, the Montgomery Civinette Club, and the ladies’ auxiliary to the Association of Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling Contractors. Mary enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needle work, and craft projects. She was a member of the Loyal Builders Sunday School class at Capitol Heights United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters Doane Hammond Mize (Renny, dec.) of Kingwood, Texas, and Melanie Hammond Howell (George) of Montgomery. Five grandchildren include Michael Mize (Jill) and Mimi Mize Lawson (Clay) of Kingwood, Texas, Molly Mize Thompson (Conor) of Sugar Land, Texas, and Clint Howell (Emanuela) and Courtney Howell McCrory (Scott) of Birmingham, Alabama. Mary had eleven great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Geoffrey Kagoro at Leak-Memory Chapel in Montgomery at 11:00 AM on March 10, 2016. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery will follow immediately after the service. Pallbearers will be George Howell, Michael Mize, Clint Howell, Clay Lawson, Scott McCrory, and Conor Thompson.
