Brigadier General Lonnie J. Slauson, Jr., 88, a resident of Montgomery, AL passed away at home from natural causes on November 22, 2022. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Evangel Temple at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church. He served his country from 1952 to 1994, retiring from the US Air Force. He was a member of Evangel Church, a Sunday School teacher and President of the Civitan Club. He is preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Alice Slauson, five sisters and a stepdaughter. Survivors include his wife Nell, son Pete (Caroline), stepdaughter Charnelle (Spencer) Farr, stepson in law Victor Simmons, five grandchildren including Michelle Arnold and niece Jenny Williams who cared for him during his last stages of life and four great grandchildren. He had a very distinguished military career. He volunteered for the draft in the U.S. Army in 1953, and served on extended active duty until 1955, the majority of that spent in Korea. In November 1956 he enlisted with the Alabama ANG, as an airman first class. He was commissioned a first lieutenant in 1962 with promotion to Captain in 1964, major in 1968, lieutenant in colonel in 1974, colonel in 1979 and retiring as a Brigadier General in 1994.
