Lee Mason Snyder, age 77, a resident of Lowndesboro, Alabama passed away on May 6, 2023. He was born in Manhattan, New York to Lillian Leona Mason and Harold Dennis Snyder on May 21, 1945, and was raised in Atmore, Alabama by his mother and step-father Everett Mason. A 1963 graduate of Escambia County High School, he received the honor of All-State Linebacker his senior year. Lee attended Auburn University where he played the position of fullback before transferring to Troy State University. His coaching career began in 1966 as a football and baseball coach at Baldwin High School in Milledgeville, Georgia. Returning to Alabama in 1967, Lee went on to coach at Escambia County High School, Red Level High School, Troy State University, and Lowndes Academy. Although football was his passion, he also coached basketball, track, gymnastics, baseball, and softball. After retiring from coaching, Lee taught computer science in Selma, Montgomery, and Clanton. During his spare time, Lee loved gardening, traveling, watching his grandchildren participate in any sport they were involved in, and Auburn football.
Lee is survived by his wife Lauralee Gautreaux Snyder and his daughter Rachel McCurdy (Garrett). Grandchildren, Frazer McCurdy (Jordan), Laura Jean McCurdy, Mason McCurdy. Great-granddaughter Sarah Chapman McCurdy.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM on May 21, 2023 in the auditorium at Lowndes Academy, 215 South Broad St., Lowndesboro, Alabama, followed by a Celebration of Life Ceremony at 3:00 PM.
