Kenneth James Woodard of Montgomery, AL passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday, October 28th at 11:00 AM at Church of the Highlands, 4255 Taylor Rd., Montgomery, AL 36116, followed by a celebration of life service at 12:00 PM noon.
Ken was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on June 17, 1941, the son of the late Reverends Martha and C.R. Woodard. The family moved to War, West Virginia where he attended high school and played on the football team. He graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts and went on to obtain his Master’s in Education from the University of Tennessee. From there, he travelled with Reverend T.L. Lowery taking part in evangelistic tent revivals. Ken had an amazing work ethic his whole life with his first job being in sixth grade as the “shoeshine boy” for Bud’s Barber shop. Throughout his life, he had many jobs from being a high school principal to selling ads for an education magazine. He later became a partner in Bass Anglers Sportsman Society as well as partner of Tidbits Media Inc and Montgomery Business Brokers.
Ken was a big University of Tennessee fan and never missed a game. He also had a love for cars with his favorite car being the Mercedes SL series. Ken was involved in service for his church, Church of the Highlands, where he was a faithful member. He adored his family and was active in his children’s lives through school and extracurricular activities. He was their biggest cheerleader and wanted to see them succeed in all that they did. Ken never met a stranger and loved others well. He was full of life and joy and could effortlessly make others laugh and feel seen. He had a way of livening up any gathering with his great sense of humor and joking. Ken loved and knew the Lord and took advantage of the opportunities he was given to share this love with others. He will be remembered as one who deeply loved his family, especially his wife, Marcia, and his friends. They will dearly miss such a special man but will continue to cherish all the memories they made over the years.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Reverends Martha and C.R. Woodard; his brothers, Lorenzo Woodard, Eugene Woodard and Wayne Woodard; his sisters, Mildred Lowery and Ruth Hall; his sisters-in-law, Mary Woodard and Jackie Woodard; and his brothers-in-law, Reverend T.L.
