Stubbs, his sister, Voncile Hix, his brother, Russell Stubbs, his first wife of 25 years, Esther Jane Motter Stubbs, (mother of his daughter, Jane Mardis), and his second wife, Pamela Sue Wooten Stubbs of 37 years, (mother of Rick Seeber). He is survived by his daughter, Jane Elizabeth Stubbs Mardis, and her husband, Hobart Mardis, Rick Seeber, grandsons Dr. Matthew H. Mardis (Michelle), Tyler A. Mardis (Jaclyn), and Dr. Richard Seeber II, and one great grandson, Wren Alexander Mardis (son of Tyler and Jaclyn). He is also survived by his sister, Norma Pogue, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was known as “Gunga” by his pride and joy grandsons. He was also known as Jay or J.E. to other family and friends. He was born in Pine Level, AL on September 15, 1932, and served most of his career in the automotive service industry. He loved the Lord, prayed every day, and faithfully tuned in to Frazer Church every Sunday morning. When asked what the most important thing in life was, he said, “Loving and trusting God.” Early on, he had a passion for lake-life at Lake Jordan, bass fishing, motorcycles, and gardening. He was an excellent cook who was well-known for his pound cakes and caramel cakes. He had a knack for math and could beat almost anyone in a game of dominoes. His sense of humor and smile was genuine. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he said, “Being a good citizen and a good family man.” Besides loving his family dearly, he loved dogs, and dogs loved him. He will be missed on Sunday afternoons with Jane’s Dachshunds, Henry and Aubie, who loved sitting in his lap. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to the animal shelter of your choice. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Leak Memory Funeral Home in the Chapel on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00 am with visitation to the public at 10:00 am and family visitation at 9:00 am. Pallbearers are: John Ling, Greg Ling, Bo Randall, Dr. Matthew Mardis, Tyler Mardis, Dr. Richard Seeber II, and David Windham. Honorary pallbearers are: Jimmy Pogue, Jerry Pogue, Ronnie Windham, Jack Ling, and William Adams. There will not be a graveside procession or graveside service.
