Gloria Hayden Jones Azar

Gloria Hayden Jones Azar, 91, a resident of Montgomery, died peacefully Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Baptist Hospital surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, 2017 at 2 pm at St. Bede Catholic Church with Father Alex Valladares presiding. Burial will follow in St. Margaret's / Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Azar is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Edward J. Azar and parents Bess Ziegler and Sydney Clark Jones. She is survived by her loving son Norman Clark Azar and SaraAnn Azar. She leaves a many, many nieces and nephews she treasured. Pallbearers will be Charles Edmondson, Brian Moore, Barry Dean, Doug McElvy, Richard Dean, Zack Azar and Bill Azar. Mrs. Azar was a longtime member of St. Bede Catholic Church where she proudly sang in the choir. For many years, she served in Montgomery Garden Club and continued for love for flowers for years. She and her husband Edward, were enthusiastic University of Alabama football fans. In 2002, they were honored by the University of Alabama Athletic Department for the rare ”50 Yard Club” for 50 years of consecutive attendance to Alabama vs. Auburn football games, no matter where they were played. Honorary Pallbearers are George Azar, Tommy Azar, Jimmy Azar, Family of Mary Allen, Family of Fanny Bruce, Richard Willis, Jack Campbell, John Notter, Pat Mrotek, Robert Tambling, EddieBo Rogers, Owen Aronov, Alfred Goldthwaite, Tom Sheehan, Shane Johnson, Rod Nelson and Paul Dalrymple. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations may be made to the Montgomery Humane Shelter. Visitation will be Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Leak Memory with a Rosary to follow.
