He was born in Montgomery on July 12, 1945, graduated from Montgomery County High School, Alabama Christian (now Faulkner University), and Troy University. He served as a teacher, then principal at Brantley Elementary School for more than 25 years. Following his retirement, he became Montgomery County Recreation Director. Always a sports enthusiast, he designed and developed ten recreational parks throughout the county. He “rolled with the Tide,” often traveling with The Red Elephant Club or guiding tours for hundreds of beloved travelers all over the world. A talented voice student, he served as song leader for three congregations.
Mr. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, T. Lomax Norman and Bernice W. Norman, two brothers, Max and Rex Norman, and one nephew, Stan Norman. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Janice T. Norman; one brother, Knox Norman (Pat); one sister-in-law, Linda T. Flint (Brooks); two stepdaughters, Sloan S. Lusk (Tommy) and Lindsay S. Kimbro; four grandchildren, Emery and Thomas Lusk, Andrew and Anna Kimbro. Other nieces and nephews include Keith Norman (Hope), Mike Norman (Barbara), Shan Norman (Courtney), Faye Norman Boyd (Carl), Jarrett Flint (Liz), Jud Flint (Becky), Gary Crowe (Lyda), Fred Crowe (Connie), and Barbara Strickland (Mark).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 7th from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at Vaughn Park Church of Christ with Celebration of Life Services following at 2:00 pm officiated by F. LaGard Smith, minister, author, and Professor at Faulkner University’s Jones School of Law and Minister Brad Sullivan. Burial will be held at Ramer Cemetery in Ramer, Alabama at 4:00 pm.
