Elbert "Bert" R. Hughes Jr.

Elbert R. "Bert" Hughes, Jr, 78, a resident of Montgomery, AL died peacefully into the arms of Jesus on February 28, 2023. Graveside services will be Monday, March 6, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Monday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Mr. Hughes was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He loved his family, his dog Rascal and enjoyed spending time with them. He also liked traveling, being at his lake house and was an avid stamp collector. He was the owner of Hughes Suburban Gas Company. He was a 1962 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and a 1967 graduate of the University of Alabama where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He is preceded in death by his parents Elbert Rice Hughes, Sr. and Bernice Stovall Hughes and grandson Samuel Camp Hughes. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Linda W. Hughes, children Todd Hughes (Amanda), Laurie Applegate (Alex) and Lisa Hughes, and his grandchildren Amelia Hughes, Nathan Applegate, Abigail Applegate and Annalise Applegate. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Runkle, Larry Criswell, Paul Robertson, Charles Savage, Johnny Garner and Mike Schrier.
