Dorothy retired as a Medical Transcriptionist at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. She was a member of Eastern Hill Baptist Church in Montgomery and Refuge Baptist Church at Lake Martin. She was an active member of Parent-Teacher Association of Alabama. Dorothy served as a pianist at both Eastern Hills and Refuge Baptist Churches. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, William Washington Black and mother, Lura Effie Black, all of her sisters and brothers including in-laws, Jimmie Lois Black (Itiram), Mabel Ann Black (Charles), Joyce Janette Black, Frazier Lomax Black (Lillian), Willie Guy black (Beulah “Boots"), Rex Austin Black (Hilda), Gerald Lester Black (Marion).
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harry Mitchell Estes. Her sons, Jay Mitchell Estes (Maria “Missy”), William Robert Estes, Grandchildren, Taylor Mitchell Estes, Robert Cole Estes (Rebekah), Tatum McKenzie Estes, Jordan Patricia Riel (Jason) and great grandchildren, William Jay Estes and Liam Robert Riel.
A graveside committal service for Dorothy will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36117.
