Dora Lee Mayfield went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 15, 2024. Born in Foley, Alabama on May 20, 1939, she was raised in Chatom, Alabama. She was a Washington County High School homecoming queen, and the 1957 Washington County Maid of Cotton. She married her husband of 65 years, Terry Lee Mayfield, Lt. Col. USAF (Retired), in September 1959, and travelled around the world supporting his Air Force career for the next 25 years.
She lived a life of steadfast faith and was a long-time member of Capitol Heights Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending Auburn football games, where her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and both grandchildren graduated. Ms. Dora was a beloved door greeter at Sam’s Club in Montgomery, a role she cherished for 24 years. She was a loving, dedicated, and gentle wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Dora Mayfield is survived by her husband Terry Mayfield, daughter Sandy Newton (Wendell), grandchildren Danny Newton and Jenny Newton, and great-grandchildren Cooper Newton, Piper Newton, and Silas Newton.
She will be forever missed by her family, but they are comforted by the peace of Jesus knowing that she is at home with Him and fully restored in his Kingdom.
A graveside service will be held for Ms. Dora on November 22, 2024 at 2:00PM at Alabama Heritage Cemetery, 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL, 36117.
