June 24, 1959 – February 25, 2023
On February 25, 2023, Davidson Carter Tankersley (“David”) died suddenly after a brief illness that revealed the presence of stage IV metastatic cancer. Hours before his death, the Rev. Dr. Duncan H. Johnston, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church, administered Holy Unction. David was surrounded by his family who loved him, including his dear cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theda Clark Ball Tankersley and Major General Will Hill Tankersley. David will be buried alongside them. He is survived by his brother, Will Hill Tankersley, Jr. (Kristin), his sister, Theda Ball Tankersley Ocheltree (Chuck), his cousin Caroline Clark Calhoun Serrato, and his Godmother Fairlie Haynes. David’s kind and generous spirit, his quick wit, and his presence on this earth will be greatly missed. A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 on Wednesday, March 8 at Oakwood Cemetery with a visitation to follow at St. John's parish hall from 3:00 until 4:30. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, those who are moved to do so send donations to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 113 Madison Ave. Montgomery, AL 36104, or Mercy House, P.O. Box 10035, Montgomery, AL 36108.
