Clara Mae Sharpe, a long-time resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2022. She is proceeded in death by her husband, James H Sharpe Sr, her parents, William Oscar Taylor and Catherine Small Taylor, her sisters, Francis Whitaker Taylor and Peggy Joe Taylor, and brothers, Leo Taylor and Linwood Oscar Taylor.
She is survived by her son, James “Jimmy” Hartwell Sharpe Jr, her grandchildren, Casey Leigh Eason and James “Jamie” Hartwell Sharpe III (Alexandria), and great-grandchildren, Taylor Ann Eason and Jaden Alan Eason.
Clara was born and raised in North Carolina, where she grew up on a family farm growing produce and tobacco plants. She worked many years before retiring from the telephone company. She met her husband, James H Sharpe, on base in North Carolina, married and soon moved to Montgomery, Alabama. Clara and James were married for 69 years before James’ death in 2020.
Clara was a loving wife and beloved grandmother. She loved having company and feeding family and friends. Her favorite activities were sewing, crocheting, reading novels, taking afternoon naps and cooking. Clara enjoyed many years of traveling with her husband in their motor homes and camping with their friends in the Good Sam Camping Club. She always had jokes to tell and made the crowd laugh. She was an avid dog lover and enjoyed many dogs throughout their lives.
