He is survived by his wife, Vicki Bumpers Cawthorne, his son, Charles A. Cawthorne, Jr. (Marilyn) of Boca Raton, FL; granddaughter, Allie Sharp (Andrew) of Boca Raton, FL; step son, Philip C. Bumpers (Carol) of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren; Clay Bumpers (Ashley), Payton Bumpers (SarahDiane) , Conor Bumpers (Kayla), Sarah Sutton of Jacksonville, FL, Mason Sutton of Wellington, FL, Stanley Patterson of Montgomery, AL. Great Grandchildren Presley, Parker, and Collier Bumpers of Montgomery, AL; his brother Cornelius Fillmore Cawthorne (Karen) of Oceans Pines, Maryland and nieces and nephews, Laura Zoll and Deana, Kirk and Neal Cawthorne. Special family and friends are Gloria Williamson Newton of Auburn, AL; Joan Johnson of Greensboro, NC; Betsy Bullock, Toroboro, NC; Susan Williamson Guy of Jackson, AL; Troy and Josie Sutton of Wellington, FL; Sandy and Terry Breed of Mobile, AL; and Tammy Webb Henson of Millry, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cornelius and Kathleen Cawthorne and first wife of 42 years, Elizabeth A. Cawthorne.
Charles was a graduate of New York University and the Chiropractic Institution of New York. He was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL. Over the years, Charles was a member of many professional and social organizations. He was a dear friend to many and enjoyed chatting with them over the phone, writing shorts notes and memorable long letters of shared memories.
He enjoyed playing the piano, cooking and was an avid reader.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 29 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, 10505 Atlanta Hwy., Montgomery, AL 36117. Visitation will be from 12pm-2pm and service to immediately follow.
Committal Services will be held in Boca Raton, Florida.
