Van was preceded in death by his father, Warren Gaston Johnson. He is survived by the love of his life of 49 years, Janice Johnson; children Michelle (Mark) Taylor, Cory Van (Stephanie) Johnson, Jennifer (Justin) Dixon; grandchildren Brady Eiland, Trinity Eiland, Atley Eiland, Emmaline Grace Dixon, Emery Claire Dixon, Easton Van Johnson, and Russell Martin Johnson; mother Evie Mae Johnson; siblings Dorothy (Dale) Brown, Gene (Alice) Johnson, Jim (Martha) Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Van was a dedicated and loving husband, father, Pops, son, brother, and friend to many. He served our great country with the 31st Infantry Regiment (6th Battalion) during the Vietnam War, retiring as a Master Sergeant from the 187th Air National Guard. During his career, Van was employed by Delchamps, Winn-Dixie, AMSCO/Steris, and owner of Johnson Lawn Service. Van was a long-time, faithful member of Catoma Baptist Church, serving in many roles, one being the Chairman of Deacons.
Visitation will be held at Catoma Baptist Church on Saturday, August 7, 2021 beginning at 11:30 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Cleve Smith and Pastor Mike Golson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
