I still think of our school days at times.  Such happy, wonderful,  optimistic memories . So hard to grasp that Billy Ray isn't there,  cutting hair,  and laughing.  He was such a good,  kind man.  🙏⚘️♥️

I loved Billy. He was always so friendly and welcoming. He wasn't just a great barber, he was a kind and cheerful soul with a ready laugh.  He cut my hair for many years, to my parents satisfaction when I was a kid, "styled" it when I was a teen, and kept it in military reg when I was in the Air Force. He cut my siblings, daddy's and even mom's hair. He was not just a barber but a precious person and will be truly missed.

I just saw my fingers typed wrong. John and Pearl Jordan lived at 2081 Miller St. sitting here thinking of all the people that he cut hair for. I myself can name so so many from Highland Gardens. My Grandmother Pearl Jordan was the neighborhood Avon Lady for 40 years.

Mr Bill cut my Grandparents hair John and Pearl Jordan. They lived at 2081 Muller St for over 40 years. He cut my Dad and Uncles hair. When my Son was born on May 31,1986 which was also Bills Bday the following year he gave my son his very first haircut. I have many pictures and Fond Loving Memories of Mr Bill. I will Never Forget Him. He was Truly One of a Kind. Loved by All

Bill was more than just the family barber.  His love and kindness has always meant so much to us.  When our family was separated Bill kept us together in spirit by sharing his love and generous spirit with each one of us.  Bill never cut my hair but I was so proud to be the wife, mother, and grandmother of such handsome fella's with the best looking hair!!  Thank you, Lord, for blessing me and mine with such an Angel as Mr. Bill.  Our lives will always be so much richer because of him.

Bill was part of our family for decades. He was a kind and constant force for neighborliness in his shop. He enjoyed cutting toddlers’ hair and watching them grow into fathers and even grandfathers. We will miss him.

He was always there with a listening ear. He was like a grandfather to me. he helped me and my mother so much over the years. My admiration and respect for him knows no bounds. He was a great man and a great friend. He will be deeply missed and always loved

I knew him as Billy Ray, as he was called in McKenzie.  We were teens, and he did odd jobs for an uncle.  He was a hard-working kid who became a hard-working man.  He once cut the hair of a musician on stage during a Big Bam Show in the Coliseum; many of us there knew him and were cheering him on.  He knew my folks and relatives from McKenzie, and we used to have talks about them when he wasn’t busy.  I’ll really miss him.

Heaven gained a awesome  man / father / grandfather /barber . He cut my hair  / my dad and my brothers hair for many  a year !  I can remember  him telling  me to go get me a snack and soda  in the back if want one .  And watching  crazy judge Judy  !  Always had  kind words  and a smile on his face !  You will be missed  by many ! 

Bill was my  best friend for over 55 years, he cut my son's hair when he was 2 weeks old and he is now 52. I believe he knew every body in town and would stop and talk to every body. I don't think I will ever forget the times we climbed the fence at the Fair just so we could say we did. He loved Ann and his kids and he will be missed by a lot of people in this town. I don't think it has hit me yet and I will never forget him . I loved him like a brother I never had. 




Bill has been my husband’s barber for the 36 yrs we have been married. 1989 my husband  had a bad accident with brain damage . Bill came to the hospital two times cut his hair and when he returned home from Louisiana rehab , Bill would never charge my husband more than 5 dollars . Out of Love . Thank you Bill . While growing up in Highland Gardens Mr Bill cut my hair many times! He was a very nice and good man. My heart and prayers goes out to his family in their loss! I know he will be missed! Praying for everyone!

On behave of the Highland Gardens Men’s  Club we send out our condolences and prayers. He was a great icon of the neighborhood. He cut my hair as a little boy back in the 70’s. I’d probably say he cut 1000’s of boys and girls over the many years. He made sure when you came in you were treated like family and not afraid of him. He was one of the best in the business and will be missed.

Bill was a special man.  One time he opened up his shop just to cut Jimmy’s hair because he knew this was our time of need.  He could always get you laughing.  He did not have customers, he had friends who visited him monthly.  He will be missed.

Mr. Bill cut my Daddy and brother's hair for many years. He was more than just a barber to my my father. He was also a friend. Mr. Bill was well respected and loved by so many from the neighborhood. Many wonderful memories were made in that barbershop. Mr. Bill will truly be missed. Sending prayers for comfort to Mrs. Ann and the Ammons family and much love.

I lived across the street from the shop in the 80s Bill cut my entire familys hair. And saved me from  many disasters . I would get notion to get my hair cut walk across to the shop and it would be full with people waiting so I would go home and cut my hair myself only to create a mess  .I would wait and watch as soon as I thought the place was empty I would run across the street to the shop with a towel around my head as soon as Bill saw me he knew what I had done and would laugh and say sit down and let me see what I can do with it ... He was a angel on earth .and will be miss by many

Mr. Bill was a great guy. He cut our whole family's hair for a long time. My mom will be happy to see Bill at the heavenly gates. Prayers to the family. 

Bill was my barber for many years.  I have prayed with him for his needs and with him for others.  He was a Godly man and my friend.  I lift his wife and family before the throne of Jesus.


Mr Bill cut my hair for many years & also my children's hair. Both my boys got their 1st haircut from him. They are now 34 & 30. He always had something nice to say to people. He was a good person & will truly be missed. Fly high angel.

I have so many Good memories of Bill. I went to the Beauty Shop for 47 years and he was always the same. He loved to joke and pick on you if he found out that you didn't like it. A good man. We need more like Bill.

I am so sorry to learn of  Bill's passing. He was a true friend and great person. I worked in the Highland Gardens Beauty Salon next door to Bill's Barber Shop for my cousin Doris Harris in the 70's. Then, when I lost my precious oldest son, Bill was so kind to go to the funeral home to cut my son's hair before he was laid to rest. Many years later, Bill told me how hard that was for him. It broke his heart. He touch so many during his life and was a true friend to all. He will be missed. 

Mr. Bill was an incredible man.  Not only was he a Family Friend to all of us, but my Dad thought the world of Bill long before we ever knew him.  My very first haircut in life went to the honor of Bill. 
Always had a smile and just fun to be around.  He definitely left a legacy and touched many lives.

Ann, so sorry for your loss. Bill was a wonderful person and great friend. He pretty much cut my hair my whole life until he retired. He always knew, without me saying, how I wanted my haircut. Anyone that sat in his barber chair, Bill would get in a conversation about that person and their family. He really cared about what was happening in that person’s life. I loved and have missed sitting in his chair and having those conversations. My life has been blessed having Bill being a part of it. Thank you Ann for sharing Bill with all of us all these years. Until I see you again Bill, RIP.

So sorry for your loss. Bill gave my son his first cut in 1989. He has cut our family’s hair since 1969. He will be missed by many. 

Mr. Ammons was a man I didn’t know, I had only seen him a couple times up at Dozier Elementary School. But who I did know was his son Michael. Michael and I shared classes all through school up to high school. I know this, if Michael is any resemblance of Mr. Ammons then I know Mr. Ammons to be a Great Man.  As Men when we get older we appreciate our fathers much more. But what we don’t realize as young men is that we really appreciated them then too. Matter of fact we were probably a carbon copy of them. I pray the Ammons family will be comforted at this time of loss and will take solace that their patriarch is now with God.
