Alfred Bennett Carroll was born Feb 23, 1925, in Clayton, AL. He completed his earthly journey and was transferred to the Church Triumphant on September 28, 2016. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Doris S. Carroll; his parents, William and Annie Carroll; and by three brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Carroll Howie (Don), Cynthia Carroll Wood (Rudy), and Susan Carroll Mustin (John); two grandsons; five granddaughters; and eight great grandchildren. Mr. Carroll entered the Marine Corps in October 1943, receiving boot training San Diego, CA. Assigned to Hq. Co., Hq. Bn., 4th Marine Div., December 1943. Then to Hg. Co., 2nd Bn., 25th Regt., 4th Div., March 1944. Participated in combat in WWII forces on Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. The flag was raised on his 20th birthday in 1945. Discharged Feb. 15, 1946, with the rank of corporal, later became life time member of 4th Marine Division Association. Began criminal justice career with Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, DC in 1947. B.S. and M.S. degrees from Auburn University, Auburn, AL, in 1950 and 1953. Taught criminal justice subjects part time for 20 years at three different universities, co-founder of department at one university. Served 40 years government service (military and civilian). Retired as lieutenant colonel from USAFR in 1978 and as civilian in 1988 and became a self-employed farmer. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Leak Memory Chapel from 5:00PM-7:00PM. A Chapel Service will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Monday, October 3, 2016, at 11:00AM with Pastor Michael Rippy officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
