William “Widdie” Lee Lawley age 89 of Alabaster, Alabama passed away Thursday May 14, 2020. William was born in Bibb County Alabama to Lewis and Mary Ellen Lawley. As a young man William served in the United States Navy during the Korean War where he was awarded the Good conduct medal, Navy Occupational Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. After he served his country William returned home to make a life. He spent his career as a coal miner in Mulga, Alabama. William enjoyed hunting, and fishing, as well as gardening when he was able. In his later years William enjoyed reading and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
Preceding him in death are his parents Lewis and Mary Ellen; brothers, Harvey Lawley, Frankie Lawley, and an infant brother; sisters, Margie Littlefield, Merle Lawrence, and Barbara Shook.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 67 years Marie Lawley; sisters, Ona Bea Hyde, Vivian Seymer, and Sue Moore; children, Sherry Lutz (Willie), Linda Kiker, Vicki Rye (Steve), and Keith Lawley; grandchildren, Jennifer Stanley, Angela May (Jason), Brandon Stanley (Samantha), Brad Kiker (Lauren), Adam Kiker (Jordan), Meredith Rye, and Matthew Rye; eight great-grand children as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday May 18, 2020 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). There will be a graveside service at Macedonia Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama following the visitation at 11:30 am.
