Robert E. (Bob) White, age 81, of Alabaster, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. With family by his side, he peacefully entered the presence of his Savior. Bob was born April 17, 1940 to Robert and Edith White.
He is a veteran of The US Army where he served as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam war. He was executive company commander. He was also air mission commander in charge of other aircraft while he was in flight. In his time there, he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Air Service medal 14 times, and The Bronze Star in addition to many other awards and medals. Many men made it home to their families as a direct result of his actions. After the war, he served on the Birmingham Police Department as a helicopter pilot for a few years. He spent many years after that in industrial sales. He finally discovered what he enjoyed the most, which is anything involving computers. He spent many years in IT computer service for various companies.
Bob was an avid reader. Often when you saw him it would be with a science fiction book in his hand. He also loved playing games on the computer and could do so for hours. To know Bob was to love him. He had a contagious personality that gave him the ability to put people at ease around him. He was one of those kinds of people; it just felt good to be around them. On top of that He was both highly intelligent and gifted. He had a sense of humor that often brought unexpected laughter from those around him. If you would have asked him, he would tell you that his greatest work was taking care of his wife through her many health struggles.
Bob is survived by his step-son Kenneth Prewett (Yesenia), grandchildren Jenifer and Nicholas Prewett. Niece Cheryl Dickey Chapman, Great Niece Alexandria Chapman. Life long friends Wayne Prewett, and Wayne Graves. Also Ajax and Monkey, his two cats he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by the woman he loved passionately over 40 years Ann Taylor White. Also by the one who though she was 30 when she left, was always daddy's little girl, his daughter Lorei White. Also his big sister and the only one who got away with calling him Earnie, Barbara Dickey.
He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
