Mary was born August 2, 1951 to Charles and Carmen (Desira) Farrugia in the town of Pieta on the Mediterranean Island of Malta. She emigrated to Australia and spent her childhood there. She eventually began a new life in the United States and was a resident of Montevallo, Alabama at the time of her passing.
Mary ran a successful business for nearly five decades. Her primary occupation was as a beautician, but her true vocation was helping those around her who needed help the most. Mary will long be remembered by people across three continents for her infectious personality, her industriousness, her artistic talent, but more especially for her generosity. Mary never forgot the struggles her family faced in post-war Europe and as strangers in a foreign land. She had a heart for the elderly and those who had a hard road to travel in life. For countless people in the community where she resided, she was often the very first person those in need would call when they were desperate for a ride to the grocery store, needed a garden planted, or had to have a meal delivered. Mary lived her life in accordance with theverse from the Book of Matthew, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”.
Mary is survived by her husband Roger Dodd, two children:Shena Clark (Keith) and Andy Frazier (Nadine), two step-children: Shirley Batson and Johnny Dodd (Rebecca), three brothers: Fred Farrugia, Tony Farrugia (Lynne), and Marty Farrugia, four sisters: Victoria Scully (Roger), Theresa Bianco (Joe), Rita Goulthorp (William), and Margaret Farrugia, four grandchildren: Marissa Coley (Riley), Jack Coley (Bethany), Charlie Frazier, and Eve Frazier, 7 step grandchildren, 11 step great-grandchildren, and dozens of nieces and nephews.
