Martha Kay Johnson, age 79 passed away on February 6, 2021. She was born June 15, 1941 in Clayton AL. She is predeceased by her parents Robert Melvin Johnson and Imogene Arrington Johnson. She is survived by her sisters Linda Bland, Luverne, AL and Dianne Knight (John), Hayneville, AL and nieces Jeanelle Day (Stan), Birmingham, AL, Leitha Boutwell, Mobile, AL, Shannon Knight, Montgomery, AL, Eric Knight, San Antonio, TX and great nieces Catherine Ann Boutwell and Mollie Elizabeth Boutwell, Tuscaloosa, AL.
She attended public schools in Clayton, AL and graduated from Clayton High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Montevallo, Master of Art degree and AA Certification from the University of Alabama. She taught Home Economics for seven years at BB Comer High School, Sylacauga before joining the State Department of Education as an Education Specialist in Vocational Education for 30 years in Montevallo.
She retired in 1998 and continued to live in Montevallo where she was a volunteer at the American Village and the Shelby County Baptist Association, Columbiana. She was an active member of Montevallo First Baptist Church, serving in many leadership roles.
A graveside service for family will be held on Wednesday, February 10 at 1:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Clayton, AL. A memorial service will be held in Montevallo at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Montevallo First Baptist Church, Sanctuary Renovation Fund.
