Jo Maxine Terry, age 88 of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, formerly of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday June 1, 2023. Jo was born in Lanett, Alabama to Henry George Waldroup and Orine Jo Williams Waldroup.
Jo served in the US Navy and also served as a military (US Army) wife for 21 years, which took her to live in several states and overseas throughout their marriage: Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, Texas, Germany, and finally retiring and settling in Ft. Walton Beach, FL in 1982. She worked for many years for the Federal Government (Civil Service) before retiring in the early 1980’s.
Her favorite hobby was creating beautiful homemade greeting cards that she loved to send to friends and family, as well as making them to gift to others.
Jo was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
She loved her children and doted on her grandsons. She was happiest when she was with her kids and grandkids, and loved challenging them to a game of Scrabble, because she was unbeatable. She was an avid Alabama football fan, never missing a game (on tv). She loved watching western movies, game shows, and HGTV.
After retiring she tried her hand at several different hobbies, such as making jewelry, painting, and refinishing and painting second-hand furniture, finally landing on card-making, which she loved.
Jo is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William Presley Terry, her mother Orine Jo Waldroup, her father Henry George Waldroup, her brother William Roger “Buddy” Waldroup, and two brothers-in-law, Michael Terry and Kenneth Terry.
She is survived by her children, Paul Terry of Bradenton, Florida, Jill Amburgey (Phil) of Chelsea, Alabama, Patrick Terry of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and Lee Terry of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, her grandchildren Lane Amburgey (Anastasiya) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Christian Terry of Las Vegas, Nevada (Nellis Air Force Base), and Mason Terry of Raleigh, North Carolina, sisters-in-law Carolyn Terry of Rome, Georgia and Brenda Terry Daniel of Valley, Alabama, brother-in-law Garald Terry of Beulah, Alabama, three nieces, four nephews, and a host of cousins.
There will be a service preceding interment on Friday, June 30th, at 1:15pm at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in her memory to Trinity United Methodist Church, 403 Racetrack Road NW, Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547.
