Janise "Jan" Shipley Haefner, age 71, of Montevallo, Alabama passed away in her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. She was born on November 17, 1952 in Birmingham, Alabama to John "Jack" Hugh Shipley and Mary "Belle" Shipley.
Jan grew up on Belmay Farm in Montevallo, Alabama. She graduated from Montevallo High School in 1971 and went on to attend the University of Montevallo and UAB. Jan was an avid reader and had a passion for genealogical research. She had a fondness for autumn, nature, and the Great Smoky Mountains. In her younger years, Jan worked for Shelby Medical Center as an Emergency Room Registrar. She later worked as a paralegal.
Jan is survived by her husband of 33 years, Don Haefner; children, John Miller of Alabaster, Katherine Guzman (Carlos) of Montevallo, Erin Sturgis Diaz (Jaime) of Montevallo, and Paula Haefner currently serving in the Navy; grandchildren, Nicolas Juarez (Bailey) of Inverness, Jack Diaz currently serving in the Navy, Zoe Guzman of Montevallo, McKaelia Sturgis of Alabaster, Daniela Guzman of Montevallo, Derek Diaz of Montevallo, Mallory Diaz of Montevallo and Mickah Sturgis of Alabaster; and sister, Ginger Prochaska of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Hugh "Jack" Shipley and Mary "Belle" Clower Shipley.
Jan was a long time member of Riverchase Church of Christ and The Lakeshore Foundation.
Services will be held on September 8th, 2024 at Riverchase Church of Christ. 1868 Montgomery Highway, Birmingham AL, 35244
Visitation will be at 1:00 pm with the memorial following at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society would be greatly appreciated.
