Douglas "Doug" Robert Gans, age 77, of Alabaster, Alabama passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024. He was born on September 21, 1946, and was adopted by Lillian and Robert "Bob" Gans of Horseheads, New York. Doug served in the US Marine Corps, and met his sweetheart, Patricia Wallace of the US Navy, at the Naval War College in New Port, Rhode Island. His persistence paid off and they married on September 24, 1965. Over the course of their lives together, they lived in 32 different houses to advance his career. Ultimately, they settled in Alabaster, Alabama and owned Snag Equipment together until January 2024. He was a proud member of Buck Creek Masonic Lodge #410. He loved his country, his family, Auburn football, NY Yankees baseball, and bird watching. More than anything, he did it his way. He was a tremendous husband, supportive father, and proud Grandpa. He will be terribly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Gans; and father, Robert Gans. Doug is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia "Gracie" Gans; his children, Denise Gans (Scottie Burke), Doreen "Regina" Gettig (Rob) and Dennis Gans, all of Alabaster; and grandchildren, Dylon Bearden, Damon Gans, Peyton Booth and Hunter Booth.
Visitation will be held at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo) on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM, followed by the committal service at 2:00 PM at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children at donate.lovetotherescue.org or St. Jude at stjude.org.
