Clara Jane Hawks, beloved wife of Dan Hawks, passed away peacefully at her home in Montevallo, Alabama on July 31, 2024. Clara was born in Tazewell, Tennessee to Andy and Blanche Parkey. Clara and Dan married in 1963. They moved to Montevallo in 1975, where they resided for 49 years.
Clara was a Mom and Memaw to all who knew her. She was extremely active in the lives of her children and grandchildren. There was nothing more dear to Clara than her family. And, she cherished every moment she spent with them – whether it was vacations, day trips, treasure hunts at local stores, lake days, ball games, or games in pool and backyard - Clara was always a major part of their lives.
Her children and grandchildren adored her, as did family and friends throughout the years. Clara was always happy when she was surrounded by extended family and friends, and even some of these young children referred to her as Memaw.
Clara was extremely creative. She loved to sew, paint, and decorate. She made dresses for her daughter, floral arrangements for her sons’ weddings, and created beautiful paintings. She decorated and landscaped, and was the first to tile a bathroom in a day, or paint a room if she was inspired to do so.
In the last few years, family and friends have held onto these wonderful memories, despite Clara’s decline and loss of cognitive functioning. Throughout this journey, Clara showed her resilience time and time again, and took refuge in her close and trusting relationship with Dan, her husband of 61 years. Nevertheless, today heaven gained an angel named “Memaw”. We remain steadfast in the belief that she is fully mindful, once again, looking down on her family, and doting on each and every one from above.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Andy Dale Parkey and Blanche Parkey; and brother, Dale Parkey.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Hawks; her children, Van (Lisa) Hawks, Karla (Kevin) Butler, and Robbie (Maribeth) Hawks; her grandchildren, Nicole (Ashton) Steed, Seth Hawks, Taylor (Jack) Spink, Aaron Hawks, Gavan Hawks, Nolan Butler, and Evin Butler; and her great-grandchild, Conrad Steed.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to our caregivers, Debbie Boothe and Faye Kinsel. These ladies mean the world to our family and played a significant role in Clara’s care process, which allowed her to remain at home with her husband during this journey. Thank you to ExpectCare for providing hospice services during this time.
A visitation for Clara will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, AL 35115, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Clara will be laid to rest in Montevallo City Cemetery, Highway 73, Montevallo, Alabama.
