Ruby “Sally” Eleanor Wieck was born on May 17, 1931 in Whittier, CA to Bernice and Jacob Oyerly Estep. After she was born her Aunt Peggy said she looks more like a Sally to me than a Ruby and so began her nickname “Sally.”
She graduated from El Monte High School and shortly began working at the same school. She spent her work life in schools mostly in Baldwin Park School District where she eventually moved from clerical staff to instructing at Baldwin Park Adult School. She retired in 1996. After retirement she did lots of volunteer work for the California Senior Legislature (CSL) and as a long-term care Ombudsman. She also served as a member of the Baldwin Park Women’s Club, Baldwin Park Housing Commission, Baldwin Park
Personnel Commission, Mt Sac Community Advisory Board and was a Los Angeles County Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages.
Sally had three children, Susan, Douglas, and Bonnie. She loved her children with all her heart. Her heart grew even more with her five grandchildren, Eric, Jason, Sara, Jacob, and Lucas. Her heart grew even more when her seven greatgrandchildren came around, Jordyn, Jasmyn, Vincent, Jaxon, Ruby (named after her), Lorenzo, and Amarah. Kids always put a smile on her face and made her heart happy. Sally passed away at the age of 92 on February 12, 2024 peacefully at home with family.
Her celebration of life will be held at Live Oak Cemetery in Duarte, CA on March 9, 2024 at 2 pm in the Chapel.
