Born in Union County on December 25, 1931 to George and Carrie Helms, Bud worked for many years as a welder for Allison Fence. He had many hobbies and interests including painting, putting puzzles together, and going to thrift stores. He was a dedicated, faithful and lifetime member of Secrest Grove Baptist Church. He served in many ministries of the church including Sunday School teaching and choir directing. He was also involved in singing for many years with the Secrest Grove Quartet. In his later years he enjoyed the many trips he made with the Senior Saints of the church. The church and their members were so near and dear to his heart. His greatest enjoyment however, were his family and friends. He loved spending time with them especially his great grandson Jameson. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Along with his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Frances; sisters, Mary (Boots) Helms and Minnie J. Taylor; and brother, GW Helms. He is survived by his daughter, Pam Helms (Billy); grandson, Dustin Helms (Cathlin); and great-grandson, Jameson Helms.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Secrest Grove Baptist Church, located at 4505 Weddington Road, Monroe, North Carolina.
