Martha Shaw Charo

She was born in Union County on August 21, 1935, daughter of the late Albert and Ruth Shaw. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elias Charo and by her sisters, Dorothy Shaw Hutto and Mildred Shaw Walker.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She began her career at Perfect Fit Industries. She and her husband, Elias owned Shaw’s Drapery and Upholstery for over 75 years where she was an interior designer and made draperies for many homes throughout Union County and surrounding areas. She was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church where she attended faithfully since the church’s inception. She was known for wearing a butterfly on her shoulder which gave opportunities for her to share the story of Jesus Christ.

Martha is survived by her son, Timothy Charo (Marty); her daughter, Montina McNally (Kieran); her grandchildren, Daniel Charo (Joy), Timothy Charo, Ronnie Polk (Stacey), Kieran Joseph McNally and Ashling Ruth McNally; her great-grandchildren, Charlotte Charo, Chloe Charo, Miranda Locklear (Austin) and Marissa Polk and by her brother, Lawrence Shaw (Donna) and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family of Mrs. Martha Charo would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Novant Cancer Institute and the staff at Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region for their exceptional care.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 12:00pm Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church, 2518 Lancaster Hwy., Monroe, NC. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Charo will begin at 12:00pm in the church sanctuary. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.
