Born on June 29, 1945 in Union County, North Carolina, Joyce spent the earlier part of her life taking care of her girls, Lisa and Annette. She spent the later part of her life taking care of her husband, Bobby. She worked at Charlotte Plastics for over 30 years. Joyce dearly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them and making precious memories. One of her favorite things she enjoyed doing was going to Hamrick’s with her sisters and her daughter.
Joyce is preceded in death by her daughter, Annette Phifer; grandson, Joey Cox; brothers, George Baker and Gene Baker; and sister, Libby Hackney. She is survived by her loving husband, Bobby Cox; daughter, Lisa McCall (Jeff) of Charlotte; stepson, Robert Cox (Cora); and stepdaughter, Cheryl “Cookie” Bowers (Richard); 8 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Baker (Helen); sisters, Peggy Parker and Pauline McLemore (Tom); and sister-in-law, Dana Baker.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the McEwen Colonial Chapel with Rev. Rick Kirchinger officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at the Mount Zion Baptist church cemetery.
