A lifelong Union County resident, Kay graduated from Forest Hills High School and was a member of Austin Grove Baptist Church in Marshville, North Carolina. She also worked as a medical records receptionist for many years. Kay loved working in her flowers and was an awesome cook, particularly known for her chicken casserole. She was also known for her meticulous house cleaning abilities which she passed down to her son.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ocie McManus; and brother, Bobby McManus. She is survived by her son, Charles McBride (Paula) of Rockwell, North Carolina; daughter, Tonya Jackson (Reggie) of Marshville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Bryson McBride, Reagan, Mason, Bailey, and Riley Jackson; and sisters, Brenda Rushing, Gail Throckmorton, Martha Heer, and Susie McCollum.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street in Monroe, North Carolina. A graveside service will then follow at 2:30 pm at Lakeland Memorial Park, located at 1901 Lancaster Avenue in Monroe, North Carolina with the Rev. Leon Whitley presiding.
