Ed was born in Bronx, NY on March 15, 1945, to the late Frances and Francis Murphy. He served in the United States Army Military Police Detachment USAREUR from 1967 to 1969 where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged as an SP 4. He later worked for Germantown Telephone Company in Germantown, NY from 1973 until his retirement in 2000. Formerly of Rhinebeck, NY, He moved to Charlotte, NC in 2002 and then to Lancaster, SC in 2016 with his wife.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife, Christine Murphy; brother, Frank Murphy; sister, Mary Szewczuk; two sons, Brett and Tim Murphy; five stepchildren and seven grandchildren.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Walnut Creek Clubhouse, located at 1026 Crawford Drive, Lancaster, South Carolina, 29720. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Lancaster SPCA of South Carolina.
