Born on June 3, 1947 in Manhattan, New York, she
was the daughter of Donald J. and Roberta Betty Scrimsher Foy.
Christine was well educated having earned a high school diploma from Cathedral
High School in New York City in 1965. She then obtained a Bachelor of Arts in
English from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City, New York in
1969; a Master of Science in Education from the State College of Arkansas in
Jacksonville, Arkansas in 1974; a Master of Education from South Dakota State
University in 1975; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from the University of
California in Berkeley, California in 1984. Christine was a licensed School
Psychologist where she was employed at the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego
Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Trout Creek, New York for seventeen
years. She was also very active in several professional organizations.
Concerning hobbies and leisure, Christine was an avid reader, and a lover of
language, words and word games. Her favorite novel was An Episode of
Sparrows by Rumer Godden. Her favorite book of the Bible was Job. She also read
the Psalms daily. Christine expressed her love of flowers and birds through
gardening, arts and crafting. She would make pottery, stained glass, greeting
cards, and jewelry. Many of these items she would donate to the JAARS gift
shop. Her joy was to teach others the skills she had acquired. She traveled to
England and France to see the art works of the masters and also accomplished a
lifelong dream of visiting Hawaii.
Regarding her family, Christine was an active participant in raising her three
grandchildren. Her great delight was taking them on vacations to the Pennsylvania
Amish Country and the North Carolina beaches. She was an active and faithful
member of Graceway Baptist Church in Weddington, North Carolina where she
took great pleasure in supporting and praying for missionaries.
Although colon cancer claimed her earthly life, it did not separate her from her
eternal home in Heaven. Christine had an abiding faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord
and Savior. Her life was a product of God’s sovereignty, salvation, and
sanctification. As Psalms 23:6 confidently proclaims, “And [she] will dwell in the
house of the Lord forever.”
Christine is preceded in death by her parents, Donald J. and Roberta Betty
