Born on January 10, 1948, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Maria was the cherished daughter of the late Mario and Maria Lugo Baez.
Maria graduated from Central High School and dedicated her career to Bridgeport Hospital, where she served with pride and loyalty for over 40 years as a senior outpatient clerk in the Pediatric Clinic.
A devoted and selfless mother, Maria sacrificed everything to ensure the happiness and success of her two sons, Herminio and Marcos. She embraced life with a vibrant spirit, always finding joy in the simple pleasures: cheering and talking about her New York Mets, savoring delicious meals, traveling to new places and sharing laughter and love with her family. She had an incredibly sacred bond with her sister, Daisy.
Maria was a member of both St. Mary’s Church of Bridgeport and Holy Name of Jesus Church of Stratford, drawing strength and comfort from her faith. Her love for shopping and bargain hunting was legendary, as was her ability to find joy in everyday moments. She will be forever remembered as an extraordinary grandmother who showered her grandkids with boundless love and affection.
Maria is survived by her husband, Herminio Olivera; her son, Herminio Olivera III and his wife Rachel Olivera and their daughter Hannah; her son Marcos Olivera and his wife Dawn Olivera and their children Nicholas, Elizabeth, Gianna and Michael; her sister Daisy Ann Lugo and her son William Daniel Nieves, and a host of beloved cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Mario and Maria Lugo Baez.
Maria’s legacy of love, kindness, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is at peace and reunited with her parents in eternal rest.
