Keith A. Carter, Age 58, of Monroe, CT, passed away unexpectedly on October 24, 2014. He was born on May 12, 1956 in Plattsburg, NY and at the age of 13 moved with his family to Milford, CT. He graduated from Jonathan Law High School in 1974, the Connecticut School of Electronics in 1992, and attended the University of New Haven. For 37 years, he was a dedicated and loyal employee of Sikorsky Aircraft, rising to the position of Supervisor of Internal Logistics and Transportation within the Supply Management Organization. He was an active member of the Foreman’s Club and it was a joy for him to attend all of the events. His love for helicopters was evident and his presence was known to many people throughout the Company.
In addition to working at Sikorsky, Keith held multiple occupations which allowed him to touch the lives of others. He volunteered as an EMT in Milford, CT and drove for Connecticut Limo. He always put the needs of others above his own and went out of his way to help people. Whether it was helping his family with yard work, helping someone with a flat tire, or even picking up complete strangers on the side of the road, he was always there. He had the incredible ability to enter a room full of strangers and leave a long lasting positive impression. Keith believed in the good in people and was never shy for a conversation. Every time we got together with friends or family, we were waiting on him to leave because he always had one more story.
Keith had a zest for life that was contagious and he lived life to the fullest. The center of his life was his family, his friends, and his labrador retrievers. As a newlywed, he lived in Milford and West Haven, CT. He and his family moved to Monroe in 1995. He enjoyed coaching a variety of sports and was an active member of the Chain-Gang for the Masuk High football team. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and the UConn Huskies. He loved spending time outdoors, having back-yard picnics, taking long rides on his motorcycle with his wife and traveling. He was a volunteer for the United Way, American Cancer Society, and various other fundraising activities through the Sikorsky Motorcycle Club.
Keith was a man of many talents, from making the perfect pancakes to hitting the highest notes in a song; from delivering 56 puppies to becoming the general contractor of his own home. His life was never ordinary, even with daily routines and tasks; we always found a way to have fun. Our family dinners were not only offensive, they were hilarious. The conversations around the table went from world politics to fiery debates over who could have the last piece of steak.
Keith and his wife Gale were married in 1985. Throughout their 29 years of marriage they went on countless vacations, enjoyed participating in a variety of sports, and were always looking forward to their next day together. Their first son, Ryan (RJ) shared a love of sports with his father. They traveled throughout the country for AAU Basketball. Their middle son, Kris (KC) is a lot like his father. They shared the same passion for telling stories and making others laugh. Their last son, Tyler (T-Dog) and his father were a remarkable team together. There wasn’t a household task they couldn’t tackle.
Additionally, Keith is survived by his favorite sister Ann Haines from Milford, CT; his brothers Nicholas Carter and his wife Debbie of Saranac, NY; Jeffrey Carter and his wife Debbie of Wallingford, CT; Robert Carter and his wife Kristy from Leawood, Kansas. In addition, Keith thoroughly enjoyed being an Uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Bernadette Carter of Saranac, NY and brothers Joseph and Thomas.
