Mr. McGuire was born on June 29, 1948 in New Haven, Conn. to Frederick and Mary Catherine (Gilmore) McGuire. Mr. McGuire grew up in Stratford and Bridgeport and married Peg McLaine (married: 1968 – 1991) and started their life and family together. A son, Michael was born in 1970 in Phoenix, Ariz., while Mr. McGuire was stationed there with the U.S. Air Force, followed by a second son, Christopher in 1973 and later, twin boys, Kevin and Paul in 1974, all three in Bridgeport, Conn.
Mr. McGuire served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1972, including a tour of duty overseas in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon returning home from his service, Mr. McGuire raised his family in Connecticut, where he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from Fairfield University, and later moved to Alta Loma, Calif. for his work in 1989.
Mr. McGuire had a successful career in aerospace electrical engineering with Sikorsky Aircraft and then Lockheed Martin. His career brought him to several states within the U.S., Australia and Canada, where he subsequently met and married his second wife Carol McPhail of Almonte, Ontario, Canada (married: 2000 – 2008).
Upon retirement from Lockheed Martin in Owego, NY, Mr. McGuire spent his time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, where he ultimately became president of the local chapter. In 2012, he moved to Shelton, Conn. to be closer to his family.
Mr. McGuire was both a master woodworker, having created many hand-made heirlooms for his grandchildren, and an accomplished “Do-it-Yourselfer”. If you had a question on how to do something around the house, or troubleshoot a problem with an automobile, Fred was the person to call! His helpful nature and friendly demeanor will be greatly missed.
Mr. McGuire is survived by his son, Christopher and his wife, Hilary – along with their children Timothy and Madison of West Chester, Penn.; his son Paul and his wife Beth – along with their son Kevin of Derby, Conn.; and his granddaughter Shannon McGuire of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
