Born in Aldrich, AL, Bill’s early years were spent in Selma. In 1956 he married his high school sweetheart and they moved to Mobile where they raised their family. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and Papa.
As a member of both the US Army and Alabama Army National Guard, Bill’s military career spanned 29 years during which he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal for meritorious service. Concurrently, he had a 30-year career with the Prudential Insurance Company of America where he was a leader in the Mobile District Office.
In retirement, he combined his financial skills with military experience while working with the Alabama National Guard Insurance Trust.
Bill was a member of Moffett Road Baptist Church serving in several leadership positions throughout the years. He loved all sports but was most passionate about Alabama Crimson Tide football and softball.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ann, and precious baby, Cynthia Joy. He is survived by his three children, Bruce Lemley (Lynn) of Dauphin Island, AL, Lori Overlaur (Kevin) of Valdosta, GA, Scott Lemley of Stanley, NC; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Veitch (Fred) of Colorado Springs, CO and one sister-in-law, Dane Lambert of Demopolis, AL; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Radney Funeral Home at 3155 Dauphin St, Mobile, AL.
Visitation is at 11 am with a Chapel Service to follow at 12 pm. Interment will be at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort.
Due to COVID restrictions, Graveside Services are limited to immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pilots for Christ.
