William Ora “Bill” Godwin, Jr. passed away peacefully to Heaven on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born to Donna Marie Godwin and William Ora Godwin on December 12, 1945, in Mobile, Alabama. Bill graduated from Vigor High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Kimberly-Clark, where he worked for more than 35 years. He was proud to be a Master Mason and member of Pentalpha Lodge No. 804.
Bill was charming and engaging, known for his quick wit and humor. Articulate and well-read, he was an excellent conversationalist who loved talking on the phone with his friends and family from his favorite spot on his back porch. He was a faithful friend, loving father, and grandfather who adored playing with grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and spending time on the water. He deeply loved all animals, providing love and care to many throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill is survived by his sister, Judith Godwin McFadden; his children Shannon Godwin Brown (Toby), William Ora Godwin, III (Rabia), and Jennifer Anderson Martin (Robert); grandchildren, James Bradley Andrews (Tiffany), Timothy Alex Andrews, Kaylee Godwin Corley (Matt), Emily Elizabeth Martin, Erin Elizabeth Brown, Katherine Claire Brown, and William Naim Godwin; great-grandchildren Kylie Renee Andrews, Ella Kathryn Andrews, Raelyn Corley, Blakely Corley and Collins Corley.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Ora Godwin; his mother, Donna Marie Godwin; and his daughters, Gidget Ann Godwin and Lara Marie Anderson.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the caregivers at Lynwood Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice Care for their kindness and faithful care of Mr. Godwin in his final years and days.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama.
