Wilbur Franklin Moore passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Bill was born on August 5, 1936 in Panama City, Florida to John Ezra Moore and Marjorie Grace Longcope. Following his graduation from high school, he began a career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He worked there until his retirement in 1994, except for his 2 years of service in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in South Korea.
He met the love of his life, Patricia Coleman Moore, affectionately known as his “Sugars” at Dauphin Way Baptist Church and the two were married on September 15, 1977. Bill had three children from a previous marriage, Patricia had two children from a previous marriage, and they had one child together.
Upon Bill’s acceptance of Jesus in 1977, he strived to honor Him in word and deed. He led his family well, passionately studied and wrote about the Bible, and served in various capacities at church. He especially enjoyed the weekly men’s prayer breakfast and driving women to visit their spouses living at William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette.
His sense of humor is what initially endeared most people to Bill. Everyone that knows him has heard his incredible impressions, most notably his train whistle. He also loved watching Braves baseball and Alabama football games with his Sugars. Fishing with his family in Port St. Joe was something he also treasured. His other interests included vegetable gardening, flying remote controlled airplanes and he was a purple martin enthusiast.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, John Moore and Marjorie Longcope; siblings, Wynelle Grace McKee, Lamar Whitfield Moore and Dwight Lane Moore; children, Stephen Kendal Moore and Kenneth Gerand Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Moore; children, Stacey Moore Bailey (Tim), Tammy Moore Pate (Don), Kimberly Moore Brown (Robbie), and Lisa Morgan Box (Darryl); grandchildren, Kacey Moore Zorn (Reid), Stephanie Moore White (Tyler), Shalyn Bailey Tyson (Taylor), Tanya Pate Russell, Kyle Donell Pate (Amber), Caden Jackson Brown, Kinsley Grace Brown, Brandon Barker Box (Taylor), Caleb Bryant Box, and Ethan Alexander Box.
