Dr. Sidney Clarke Phillips, Jr., passed away at his home on September 26, 2015. Born September 2, 1924, in Mobile, Alabama, he was Christian, Servant, Physician, Family Man, Patriot, Scientist, Historian, Naturalist, and Marine.
Dr. Phillips was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Houston. He is survived by his sister, Katharine Phillips Singer of Mobile, his brother, the Rev. John W. Phillips (Ann) of Pensacola, children Mary Phillips Finley (Gavin), Sidney C. Phillips III (Janine), Charles T. Phillips (Sue), grandchildren Martha (Bo), Susan (Ben), Rosemary (Aaron), Christine (Devin), Stephen, Rachel (Russ), Sarah (Jordan), Ruth, Rebekah (Lee), Audrey, Luke (Mary Kate), Virginia, and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Affectionately known by many as “Mr. Wonderful,” his patients loved him as their caring doctor who always went the extra mile, the public knew him as “Sid Phillips PFC,” and everyone called him “friend.” He will be missed by his family more than we can say.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Christ Anglican Church, 3275 Halls Mill Road, Mobile, Alabama, with visitation beginning at 9:00 A.M.; burial following at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL.
