Shirley Rester Konrad – Born in Jackson, AL in 1930 and a resident of Mobile for the past 90 years passed away peacefully in her home on October 29, 2024. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Leif H Konrad, Jr, and her parents Travis J Rester, Sr and Helen May Rester. She is survived by her two sons, Leif H Konrad, III, (wife Tina) of Brooksville, FL and Travis Richard Konrad of Mobile, AL, on daughter, Laine K Thomas (husband Jay) of Huntsville, AL, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She graduated from Sullins Junior College in Bristol, VA and from the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She worked in radio after college and played a role in the establishment of WKRG TV in Mobile. Later she sold real estate for Duke, Lowder and Roberts Brothers Realty companies. She was the Queen of the Fifty Funny Fellows in 1947. She was an active member, and one of the founders of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church serving the vestry and establishing their Prayer and Care group with her close friend Martha Luchte.
Affectionately known as Boom-Ma, Boo and BooBoo to all her family, she was a loving mother and beloved grandmother. From babysitting, carpooling, putting on birthday parties, cheering at volleyball games, cheering at wrestling tournaments, and always showing up for her grandchildren’s awards and events, she was there for them. She also loved adventure including hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, snorkeling, snow tubing, zip lining and kayaking to name a few. She traveled the world with family and friends making lasting memories. She never said no and was always willing to help anyone in need. She will be dearly missed by all of her family but her spirit will remain strong in all of their hearts.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be mailed to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1050 Azalea Road, Mobile, Alabama 36693.
