Rassie Glynn Smith, Jr. – devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a 62 year-old native of Mobile and resident of Saraland passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014. He retired as a Captain from the Mobile Police Department after 35 years of service and has been with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office for 8 years serving as Narcotics Commander. Mr. Smith was a talented self-taught musician and was a member of First Baptist North Mobile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rassie Glynn Smith, Sr. and Carrie Reach Smith, and sister, Sandra Glynn Newman. Mr. Smith is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Stephanie H. Smith; sons, Rassie Smith, III (Storrie), Paul B. Smith (Amy Mello), and Wesley Smith; grandchildren, Madison K. Smith and Rassie G. Smith, IV; brother-in-law, Walter Billy Newman; devoted cousin, Van Junior; devoted friends, Billy Givens, and Vicki and Greg Burgin; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 27, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be his three sons, as well as Billy Givens, David Wilhelm, and Rusty Reinhardt. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit: Johnny Thornton, Allen O’Shea, Greg O’Shea, Raylene Busby, Clint Law, John Cassidy, John McLain, J.T.
